We organize beach clean ups to target the issue of pollution that washes up on the island from the city.
These events are attended by both local children and often tourist visitors and help to raise awareness within our community as well as further abroad about the importance of keeping our coastal environment free from pollution.
These events help to create valuable networking opportunities and open up important discussion topics.
Every child on the island deserves to know basic ocean awareness and swimming skills to safely enjoy their coastal environment.
Turn-the-Tide is an 8 week programme where we teach the children basic theory on oceanography such as waves, tides, currents, wind, as well as topics such as the problem of marine plastic pollution, how to identify marine creatures that they are likely to encounter, and ocean safety tips.
The children have one Turn-the-Tide lesson per week, and we run two programmes simultaneously
We believe in the power of the youth to create positive change within Mozambique.
We organize training and mentorship programmes for our IOA instructors to help them step up into bright new careers being leaders within their communities.
Swimming saves lives.
And its fun!
We teach our children swimming skills during their Turn-the-Tide programme and aim to equip every child on the island with the valuable ability to swim.
One of our big dreams is to connect the people of Maputo to their surrounding natural environment, specifically their ocean and close by island paradise.
We offer lessons from our Turn-the-Tide Ocean Programme to children on school trips visiting Inhaca from Maputo and Matola.
